THE FOX AND THE WOLF

(AND THE CHICKEN)

This summer, PLS is staging a portable, playful three-man production of the silly thirteenth-century dramatic poem The Fox
and the Wolf (and the Chicken). It’s a fast-paced, light, fun talking-animal story in which a wily fox roams about, using his wits
to look for food and drink.
First, the Fox tries to convince a Rooster that his hens are sick – and that the Fox is the doctor to cure them!
Then, when the thirsty Fox gets stuck at the bottom of a well, he has to use his trickery to get the Wolf to switch places with him.
The play gets sillier and sillier – and it starts to become clear that the Fox isn’t only just a fox, but also a send-up of men who call themselves holy but are really just saving their own hides.
PLS’s mission is to create wild productions of original early drama texts: we’ll use all the original lines (translated into modern English), with lively pacing and playful ad libs and improvisations. Our interactive show will involve crazy costumes, splashes of water (perfect to cool down an audience on a hot day!), funny voices, and music, with chances for spectators to sing along, make sound effects, be chickens, and clonk the old Wolf with some inflatable clubs.
